I was 14 or so when I first rented Hair from Royal Video ($20 for a lifetime membership, 99 cents for each VHS rental, IIRC). All I was thinking about was the fabled nude scene. I was 14 after all. It turns out that most of the limited nudity in the film was male, but that didn't stop it from becoming one of my favorite movies of all time. The counter-culture musical captures the music, spirit, and politics of the 60s beautifully.

The stage production had great music but only the barest semblance of a plot. Milos Forman's film version takes those elements and grafts them onto a compelling plot. Claude Bukowski (John Savage) is heading off to basic training, but stops off in NYC for a couple of days. Wandering around town, he catches a glimpse of a beautiful young debutante (Beverly D'Angelo, whose main claim to fame is playing Ellen Griswold in the Vacation movies) and ultimately falling in with a group of hippies, led by Treat Williams. Claude is exposed to an underground culture, questions his resolve to fight in Vietnam, and chases the girl. A fantastic soundtrack and some impressive choreography by Twyla Tharp pulls it all together.

In the first clip, the reserved Ms. D'Angelo, who has spent the day with Claude and his hippie friends, watches with disgust as the gang goes skinny dipping in Central Park but eventually succumbs to peer pressure and strips down to join in, giving us several nice looks at her breasts. The gang eventually steals her clothes as a prank and she winds up running for a cab wearing nothing but a pair of wet white panties. Not surprisingly, the cab stops immediately.

In the second clip, Beverly and friends conspire to sneak onto the military base where Claude is going through basic by stealing a uniform and car from an officer they meet off-base. As she changes into the soon-to-be-stolen uniform, we get another quick glimpse of Ms. D'Angelo's breasts.
